Happy Birthday- Sweet Sixteen! Un Examen Para Mí

A Not-So Sweet Sweet Sixteen

Yes, it is my 16th birthday today! Besides being the date of the Battle of Hogwarts (for Potterheads lol), May 2nd is the day I came into this world and the day on which I’ve come to expect a major life change every year, i.e., magically and immediately overcoming my fear of interacting with people. This change has not yet happened, but I’ve still got hope! xD Fairy godmother, please…?  1-800-I AM- DESPERATE

I was actually kind of dreading my birthday this year, because on the date of my sweet sixteen is also the day of my AP Spanish test.

… happy birthday

So on the morning of my birthday, I’ll be stuck in the cafeteria for three-four hours taking an important, stressful, scary exam in a foreign language. I can’t even speak English to people properly. How the hell am I going to do all of this stuff in Spanish? xD But I have faith that I will at the least pass the test with a 3, which is *a teeny-tiny bit* important considering that this test costed $140.

Almost everyone has reacted with the utmost pity upon hearing that my birthday is on the day of this exam, but I honestly don’t care much. I don’t really do anything on my birthday anyway; I just eat cake and go out with my family on the weekend. I’ve got to admit that having the AP Spanish test on my birthday brings me a certain kind of (odd) relief. I’m that one girl who’s just there, so practically nobody knows when my birthday is. And when one of my friends tries to tell the whole class that it is, I end up getting embarrassed with all of the attention. I’d really rather not draw so much attention to myself.

That’s also why I don’t have birthday parties. Most of my friends, like me, have parents who don’t allow them to hang out with friends much, and I don’t have very many of them, so it wouldn’t be much of a party. I think having a party would stress me out, though, so just celebrating with family is nice.

My Dream Birthday

  • would be spent on the beach
  • or in the woods
  • with my family
  • I always love to visit bookstores, so…
  • I love dim sum. I’d go eat dim sum
  • NOT SO MANY PHOTOS PLEASE dear parents 😂 I don’t need to pretend to blow out candles for a picture; I just look stupid
  • a vacation on my birthday would be nice
  • I want to go everywhere. First destination is Europe, because I’m classy :p
  • going swimming! preferrably in the ocean
  • visiting a museum
  • visiting a science center!! I love those
  • Getting a dolphin, which I’d name Bob and put in my bathtub (kidding; I’d eat it)

OMG what’s wrong with me xD

I will celebrate on the weekend, with my favorite type of cake- tres leches. (That matches up with my AP test, I just realized). I have an incredible sweet tooth, and that sponge cake soaked in three kinds of milk, all sweetened, is heavenly for me. (though probably very unhealthy, but who cares? it’s so good). Topping it will be those sparkling candles that look low-key dangerous because they emit sparks. I am assuming that they will look something like this-

Tall sparklers that you stick into cakes, basically:)

So I will have sixteen of those (my parents always try to convince me to just put one or two in, but I want all of them or else it’s cheating 😂) and for sixteen candles, sixteen wishes:

16 Birthday Wishes

  1. To be more comfortable around other people,
  2. To talk more in class,
  3. To expand my cardboard box of a comfort zone,
  4. To care more about my own health,
  5. To eat healthier (not less, but more thoughtfully) and exercise more,
  6. To care more about school,
  7. To get better grades,
  8. To raise my expectations for myself (lol, I know)
  9. To feel comfortable being myself,
  10. To feel good about myself,
  11. To celebrate me!
  12. To know what makes me fantastic,
  13. To not be disappointed in myself,
  14. To volunteer at nonprofits over the summer,
  15. To do more of what I love,
  16. To have a better relationship with my dad.

Most of my wishes are about my self-confidence and mental health, as you can see. I probably shouldn’t call these wishes, but goals so that I can have more control over them. Wishes don’t get you anywhere, but goals certainly do.

So that will be how I’m spending my birthday:) I know that things don’t change overnight, but I’m determined to make this year my year.

Life, watch out. This crazy girl’s going to come at you with a tennis racket.

Cate 😊

Simply Unmeasurable

Love in measuring cups,

Friendship by inches,

Beauty by rank,

Numbers of wishes.

Percents on paper,

Letters too.

They mean nothing

Nothing about you.

Digits on a scale,

Always too big

Never mind that, never fear

They mean nothing

Nothing about you.

Rulers, tape measures, letters of the alphabet.

Measuring cups, meters and yards, pounds and measuring scales,

Meaningless numbers and letters are what they are;

They are not you.

Life, lovely and bright

Condensed into squiggles

Numbers flashing upon a screen

For do we make

That brilliant sunset

Into numbers?

Weigh kindness

Upon the scales?

Can we rob

Love of its dignity

And make it

Take the ruler

To your beauty

No, no

Restrictions like these-

Numbers don’t define you.

Darling, love,

All those things that matter

Are simply unmeasurable.

Are unmeasurable.

via Daily Prompt: Measure

Things of Beauty

The shimmering stars,

Suspended in the velvety night

The curves of the glowing moon,

And the mystical moonbeams that fall upon the Earth.

The clouds that make the deep blue sky rich, and

Water, the pure colorless beauty

Flowing over pebble, ebbing at low tide, sliding down rooftops,

Shattering into mist.

Butterflies, those winged beauties

Of finely spun colored glass,

That flit with a dancer’s grace, bobbing, twirling-

Birdsong, lifting, swooping, undulating

As the birds themselves, through the air.

Flowers, with their delicate grace

Sway in the wind, as do the green blades

Of the meadow.

Time blossoms, mountains wear

But things of beauty

Are eternal.

The things of nature are worth more than a million fortunes. 😉

I’ll see you on Monday!

Post-itivity! Something a Little Different

Hi all! 😊

Usually for Post-itivity, I find a quote that I like and write about my take on it, in what is usually a good-sized post.

Today, however, (or actually, yesterday because I schedule these) I said nah, I don’t feel like doing that today. Maybe because I’m lazy, I don’t know! 😂 But I really wanted to share some pictures that I took today with you, plus talk about spring.

Spring has sprung! At least, where I live. Although there have been bouts of rain here, it has generally become warm and sunny. All of the beautiful things of this season have arrived- flowers, birds, bees, sunshine, pollen, allergies. Amazing things, all of them;)

And with this sudden weather change comes a euphoria that snaps me out of depressive stages. I mean, I simply can’t not be happy with the sunshine and flowers and whatnot. Since I couldn’t resist taking pictures of all of the beautiful things that I saw, I have half a camera roll full of them, so I’ll share with you so of my favorites.

Wait, actually, besides my pictures of flowers and the sky, I do have something quick to say!

Please take time to find the beautiful things in your life. It can be as simple as going outside in the sunshine and taking an obnoxious amount of pictures!

I found taking pictures a lot of fun, and I did get a lot of images that I can use for this post and later posts, or just to keep for myself.

These flowers are all from my mom’s garden, by the way:) and  the sunset is the view from my backyard, above the fence. Also, hint: I am not a pro photographer 😂

The perfect spiral of a calla lily-  with a name as pretty as the flower itself

Some orchids- they’re my mom’s favorite flowers! They’re still wet with raindrops from a recent shower…

I told you they’re my mom’s favorite flower. We have probably 15 vases of orchids.

Lemons in the sky. There’s a lemon tree in my backyard, and I decided that the best picture would be taken by looking straight up.

Aren’t daffodils the best part of spring? They come every year.  A bit of my lemon tree in the background of the second one.

Pretty purple flowers; I do not know what they are called but I love them.

A succulent. I love its colors, especially against the dark earth.

A beautiful picture of the sky- clouds, blue, and our banana tree-looking palm tree.

Now with a sunset.

Recognize this? This is picture I used for my Gravatar. Up at the top is a solitary star. (It rhymes! 😂) OMG YOU CAN ITALICIZE EMOJIS?!??

Have a fantastic week, all of you! I am set- this spring weather is amazing the flowers are beautiful and blooming and I discovered that you can ITALICIZE emojis! 😂 Wishing you a happy week;

Xoxo, c.
Ps. This is one of the most fun posts I’ve made! Taking the pictures was also a lot of fun. Maybe I should do more photography…

PPs. There may be one or two special posts coming before or on Thursday! Depends on if I have enough time…

POST-ITITIVY: Life- You’ll Die Anyway

Post-itivity #1: THE JOURNEY

It’s Over 125! But That Is Not the Best Part.

Firstly, wow. I can’t believe it- AHHH! Thank you so much for reading what I have to say. You guys may not know it, but you help make my day 😊.

So thank you very much for that:)

However, (being the party pooper that I am 😝) I’m not as happy about this as I am about other things.

My favorite part about blogging is the people from the blogging community. For it truly is a community, and I love it! There’s a sense of support and empathy with always someone to read what you have to say, and lovely people to interact with.

Ah, the people! The kindness from virtual strangers haha, get it? double meaning…gosh I’m so corny sometimes is almost overwhelming, in the best way possible. It is absolutely lovely how people take the time to try to relate to each other, and comment their opinions, or advice, or encouragement, or compliments… I love it. I love being a part of this, as rewards go both ways.

There are many times when someone has left a comment that makes me smile, or sometimes even makes my day a bit brighter. Imagine that- just a little kindness from an online stranger goes a long way. This makes me realize how similar many of us are, really, and how kind people can be. Isn’t that amazing to think about?

Similarly, I feel so ecstatic whenever I comment something, and the person tells me that I’ve made their day. This is why I’m on here, this is why I’m blogging. I want to be able to relate to other people, let others know that they’re not alone, and maybe make someone happy!

Follows are simply numbers. It is the people that are important to me.

Thank you for your kindness. Thank you for talking to me, for giving me advice and encouragement, for helping me up when I’m feeling down (whether you realize it or not). Thank you for listening to what a random girl on the internet has to say.

Don’t let the numbers get you down,

xoxo, c. 💖

ps. Monday post-itivity coming soon!

pps. if I don’t catch you in my next post today, have a fantastic day! and please do let that blossom into a wonderful week:)

Post-itivity! Sailing on the Sea of Life

Postitivity sails

Life is as inconstant as your ex.

There’s going to be an awful lot of wild storms out there. And maybe when the water just seems to become calm, out will randomly pop a sea monster, as if you’re in an overly dramatic, low-budget film with no plot whatsoever. When calamity after calamity strikes, and the crappy actors react in the same way each time- “I did not see that coming!”

More than monsters that will never stop coming, challenges and certain situations or events in life will (obviously) never stop occurring. It takes a lot of time to realize and accept that some things that will never change, nor be affected by you.

That one person that you want to change will never change. The weather won’t magically *poof* into a sun-shiny, bright day for you. The wind won’t stop messing up your hair. Your ex won’t turn into a sensitive, compassionate being and beg for your forgiveness. You won’t get out of debt by moaning and asking people for more loans. Life is going to keep rolling, maybe dragging you along with it.

It’s up to you to make a change.

To get change, you need to enact a change. You need to enact change, or adapt. If something in life is going the wrong way, create change. Don’t wait for your life to do it!

If you’re on a train heading south but you want to go north, don’t go around waiting for it to make a U-turn! Jump off of it, and find a new one!

Of course, it isn’t as easy as that. It is never that easy. Especially when the things that you can’t control is something like a problem with your mental health.

There are things that you can do, however, even if you’re stuck in a situation that’s seemingly hopeless. Don’t wallow in your misery and accept it as a fact of life. There is always a way out; sometimes we just can’t see it.

Accept the past, let go, move on. Embrace all that is wrong in your life, and accept that you can’t control everything. Make up your mind, and just take that first step to make a change.

Change, no matter how hard or distant it seems, is always possible. It is never too late.

Never give up. You can’t control some (a lot) of things, but you can always control how you react to them.

xoxo, c. ❤️

ps  this is real talk. that’s why it’s a longer, heavier post than usual (sorry). I’ve been feeling down, and even this didn’t cheer me up, so that’s why I may sound so serious.

pps BUBBLES! SPRINKLES! RAINBOWS! Ok, now I either sound a lot less serious or just plain weird. 😂 bye!

Post-itivity #1: THE JOURNEY

So it’s hump day, and I’m just as ready for the weekend as you are 😂 I honestly thought that it was Thursday today when I woke up- ah, such disappointment. But then I realized I could post some Wednesday encouragement! So here’s one of my favorite quotes:

“Don’t judge each day by the harvest you reap but by the seeds that you plant. ”   Robert Louis Stevenson

Sometimes I beat myself up over crap that happens in my day, even if it wasn’t quite my fault. We all do this– we all are too hard on ourselves sometimes. Remember that it’s really not the outcome of a day that counts but the thought and effort that went into it.

Look, out of all the people in your life (except maybe your mom) you know yourself best. You about how much you’ve been trying and all that you’ve gone through. You know if you’ve been in bed all day because you were depressed, not lazy; if you were stressing because of your horrible boss and unable to concentrate; if you were silent in class because you have social anxiety. Don’t be that one negative person in your own life. Cut yourself some slack.

Come on, I’m rooting for you. May you have a crazy great camel day..             XOXO, c. ❤

p.s. as the renowned philosopher Hailee Steinfeld once said, (remember to) love yourself
